Niki’s First Month Home!

It has been one month since Niki came home and what a month it has been! She has doubled in size, energy and cuteness! There have been so many things going on for her in her first month, but she has been amazing and is learning fast. I have to say that I haven’t seen many puppies this smart and this anxious to learn (as long as their is a treat involved). I am definitely biased though.πŸ˜„ Here are a few of the things that she has been up to so far…

When I was young, my family had 2 Australian Shepherds. They were the greatest dogs I have ever had. The bond that we built with them was incredible. They were truly best friends. One of them even saved me from suffocating as a baby. (Comment on my Instagram post if you want to hear the whole story) This is why, when we got a dog of our own, Grady and I decided to get an Aussie

We have been enjoying watching Niki learn to be a part of our family. She has the most endearing quirks and facial expressions ever! She loves sleeping belly up, fetching her ball, cuddling with us, watching TV and playing tug of war. She also loves riding in the car, especially if she can sit on my lap.πŸ˜‰

Niki has started her journey of becoming a service dog. I have a couple health issues that allow me to have a service dog and it has been a great experience trying to train her to become my service companion. Training is a huge part of her journey, but she is a natural. She loves learning and in one short month she has learned sit, down, stay and fist bump. Pretty soon we will be working on the harder training for the service dog course, but baby steps for now.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the Niki update! Keep following my blog and Instagram to see more updates and pictures. @evastwocents
