Family Game Night

Are you wanting to spend more time together as a family but don’t want to spend it with electronics? You think, go outside and enjoy nature, and that is great! But what if you can’t go outside? What do you do? In my house, my husband and I play games together. We have been working on building our board game collection. Here are a few of our favorite games. I have also included Amazon links to all of these items in the headings.

  1. Boggle
This has become one of our favorite games! It is like taking a crossword to a whole new level. You can play with your kids and teach them new words and work on their spelling. It is easy to change the rules to make it easier for younger kids too. Have a dictionary handy!
  2. Hues and Cues
Hues and Cues is a great game to build description skills. You have to be creative in how you describe the colors you want the other players to guess. It is easy and fun to play with all ages and funny when you hear some of the ways different people describe the same colors.
  3. Ticket to Ride
This game is a fun strategy game that can also work to help with geography. It is geared to older kids. Take turns setting up your railroads to take over. Block people and try to get from one city to another.
  4. Monopoly Deal
Do you like Monopoly but aren’t a fan of having to sit and play the same game for 3 hours? Well, Monopoly Deal is the solution to that. It takes an average of 15 minutes to play and is so fun. The game can change at the drop of a hat if you have the right cards on your turn. Have fun seeing people squirm while you take their properties and bankrupt them.
  5. Tapple
This game reminds me of the game we played as kids where you go down the alphabet calling a different item that starts with the different letters. You are timed as you try to think of things in a category that start with the letters on the board. It is built as a great travel game with the built in storage for the cards. Great for the whole family.

Playing games as a family is a great way to spend time together indoors and get closer together. I hope you enjoy these games and if you have a favorite game please share!
