Tips for Summer Travel in Alaska

Hello! I know it has been awhile! As many of you have probably seen, I started a travel agency. It has been a busy summer, but hopefully this will be the start of more regular posts, stories and videos from me!

For my first post back, I want to share something about my new travel business. Through the start up process, I’ve had to take classes on dozens of different vacation destinations, activities and opportunities. It has been so fun to learn the “behind the scenes” on cruises, airfare, hotels, activities, you name it! There are so many things I have learned that will hopefully help me help you plan an amazing trip!

Welcome to Hidden Gem posts. These will be part of my travel posts, but they will be exposing hidden gems all around the world. This can be the restaurant that no one knows about, but is amazing. The place that is off the beaten path, but worth the trip, or the vacation spot that is unknown. Look out for these posts, cause you never know what you might discover.

For this Hidden Gem post, I want to talk about Alaska. It is a little underrated, but through my research, I have found beautiful things about it and secrets that make it the hidden gem of August. A lot of people think that Alaska is the wild frontier, a place that is dangerous and not for your family vacation. But, that isn’t always the case. There are so many things to do during every season.

I’m going to talk about the best season to go for outdoor activities. The best, warmest months to visit Alaska are June through August. But here is the secret. The best times to go, are May and September. There are fewer bugs and fewer people. During this time. You can experience the beauties of Alaska before the crowds arrive.

Something else, May through September is the best time to see whales in Alaska if whale watching is on your bucket list. May and September are still considered the slow season, so a lot of things are cheaper than June through August. You can take a cruise to see the whales and glaciers, you can go for a hike to see the wildlife, or go fishing if that what you like. If your favorite vacation type is nature and hiking, then Alaska in the summer is for you.

This is only Alaska in the summer. Things to do in Alaska during the winter months is a whole other post. Stay tuned for more Hidden Gem posts and others coming your way.
